Our very own Search Control booth won the 2013 “Best Booth” award. At the booth we offered valuable tools and information for small business owners to take advantage of and learn more about Search Control and our services. Search Control executive members provided WebScores to help business owners gauge their company’s online presence and engaged with attendees through Google Search games and much more.

Puzzlejuice has several different components to keep your brain engaged and your fingers at play. The game starts out similar to Tetris, allowing you to shift and move block pieces to complete an entire row of blocks. When a full row is completed, the blocks then turn into scrambled letters, just like the game Blogger. In order to make these letters disappear you have to form words using adjacent letters. As if that’s not difficult enough, you’re now pushed to the true test of multitasking. Each falling block is color coated allowing more opportunity to turn blocks into letters. By aligning three blocks of the same color, the blocks will “pop” and give you a better chance of forming words to create space for the constant falling blocks.

While all of this sounds a bit confusing, when you actually start playing the game you will quickly catch on. As with other related games, Puzzlejuice gives you power-ups to help you advanced quickly if you find yourself caught in a downpour of falling blocks. With different levels of difficulty you are able to start out at a comfortable pace and advanced to the most intense levels.

More and more consumers are relying on the internet to find reliable information about businesses. According to the results found in the 2012 Local Consumer Review Survey, online reviews are becoming a very prominent tool in trusting in and using a company’s services.

Managing your online reputation is crucial for your business to bring in consumers and keep them coming back. A major part of managing your online reputation is being active on review sites such as Yelp and encouraging your customers to leave you reviews. Doing this will not only provide feedback for your business, but also create a positive online presence to help your business grow! Keep in mind that all reviews aren’t going to be positive; however you do want to make sure you have more positive reviews than negative. If you aren’t receiving the reviews you would like, consider reevaluating the situation and turning it into something your company can learn from and ensure better experiences for your future consumers.

The major review sites that you want to use for your business are Google + Local, Yelp, Kudzu and Merchant Circle. Once you’ve claimed your profile on these sites, encourage your customers to write a review. Here are a few simple additions you are now allowed to add to your Facebook cover image that can increase engagement:

Ask For Likes

You ultimately want people to “like” your page, right? Go ahead and ask them to with their first sight of the cover image. Add “Like Our Page” with an arrow drawing their eyes to the “Like” button.

Ask for Shares

Sometimes people forget that sharing a page on their timeline is an option. Including the “Share Our Page With Your Friends” copy to your cover image might get your followers to do just that.

Don’t overdo it; just stick to asking for Likes or Shares, probably not both at once.

Include Your Website

Facebook now allows cover images to include your website address. This is only advised if your website URL is short will not make your cover look too complicated. SearchControl.com, for example, is simple and easy to remember. A longer URL would clutter the cover image. Keep in mind that users will not be able to click on your website URL as a link in your cover image, so if you want to include your web address remember that it is just for show.

Combine Profile Picture with the Cover

This is nothing new as far as Facebook guidelines go, but it’s something that many Facebook pages have yet to do. It takes a little more creativity, but you can make it appear as if your profile picture and cover image line up to make one display.

Need to give a face to your company? Put a picture of your actual employee as the profile picture for the page. The cover can read “Call her today!” with an arrow pointing at the profile picture.
